Lockout/ Tagout Course Overview

The term Lockout-Tagout refers to specific practices and procedures that safeguard workers from the unexpected energizing or start-up of machinery and equipment, or the release of hazardous energy during service or maintenance activities. This course explains the importance of lockout-tagout in protecting the health and safety of workers.

Employers should train all workers in the basic concepts of hazardous energy control, including energy isolation, locking and tagging of control devices, verifying de-energization, and clearing danger points before re-energizing equipment. Workers whose duties involve installation, maintenance, service, or repair work should be trained in the detailed control procedures required for their particular equipment.

  • Understand when Lockout-Tagout should be used in the workplace

Course Format

This is a self-paced online course that you can exit and resume at any time.

The course includes interactive practice exercises that reinforce key concepts and offer an opportunity to gauge your understanding of the course content. The exercises do not count toward your test score and can be revisited as you need to achieve the learning objectives.

Evaluation and Certification

Each unit concludes with a test. A score of 100% is needed to progress to the next unit and complete your training. If you do not pass the test you can review the material as needed. Please note that every test is generated through an automated test bank to ensure that each version is unique.

A printable certificate is available upon successful completion of the course. This document identifies you by name and includes the date that you completed your training.
