Gas Detection Course Overview

This Gas Detection course helps build skills around the detection and control of flammable and toxic gases for potentially dangerous work sites. The course meets requirements as outlined in IRP 18 and IRP 7 for well-site supervisor for gas detection training.

Content includes exploring the features and operations of the most common detector tube devices (bellows and piston), and gas monitors (continuous gas, combustible gas, fixed continuous). Participants will learn about explosive ranges, toxic atmospheres, oxygen levels, flammable substances and control, principles of flammable gas, vapour detection, and much more.

The Gas Detection course is suited for anyone entering a job site that requires any type of gas detection equipment.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the Gas Detection course, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize why gas detection training is important
  • Identify common types of detector tube devices and their safe operation
  • Identify combustible gas monitors and they work
  • Identify fixed continuous monitors
  • Understand the process of gas detection and how to use detection equipment

Course Format

This is a self-paced online course that you can exit and resume at any time. Comprised of eight modules, the course includes interactive practice exercises that reinforce key concepts, offering you an opportunity to gauge your understanding of the course content. The exercises do not count toward your test score and can be revisited as needed. Average course completion time is between 90 minutes to four hours.

Evaluation and Certification

Testing is designed to reinforce the course information. A mark of 80% must be achieved in order to receive a certificate of completion. Participants may repeat the course twice if the passing mark is not achieved.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be issued a certificate. This certificate is for the sole use and benefits of the Bearer for the purpose of acknowledging that the Bearer has successfully completed the course described and is non-transferable. By signing the front of the certificate, the Bearer further acknowledges, agrees and assumes full responsibility for its use. By completing the course in its entirety and passing the final exam the Bearer fully agrees that he or she understands the information received in the course and any wrongful information given to others and or actions taken are the full responsibility of the Bearer of this certificate, and the course owner is not liable in anyway.
