BASICS.fst: Food Safety Training

Course Overview

Overview

This is
a comprehensive food safety training course for both professional and domestic
food handlers. Using case studies and practice exercises, this course teaches
safe and professional food-handling practices to ultimately prevent foodborne
illness. Equivalent to FOODSAFE™ Level 1 which is certified by the B.C. Centre
for Disease Control.

Anyone who works with food within British Columbia should take Food Safety
BASICS.fst® (FOODSAFE™ Level 1 Equivalent).

 

The
information and recommendations in this course are based on the Canadian Food
Retail and Food Services Regulation and Code (FRFSRC), 
Health Canada, and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

 

Learning
Objectives

This course aims to provide participants with
the information required to ensure employee and customer safety, and to reduce
the liability of foodservice businesses.

 

Food Safety BASICS includes the following
information:

Personal hygiene

·
Food preparation

·
Cleaning and sanitizing food and prep surfaces

·
Safe cooking temperatures

·
Purchasing, receiving, and storing food

·
Handling and serving food

·
Food allergies

·
microorganisms and foodborne illness

·
Food Safety regulations

Course
Format

This is a self-paced online course presented in
13 modules. Participants may leave and resume the course at any time. The
duration will depend on the participant and any prior knowledge of the
subject-matter.

Evaluation and
Certification

 

There
is a test at the end of each module. Participants must pass each test with 100%
before they can proceed to the next unit. Those who do not achieve 100% can
review the module content and re-try as necessary to complete the course. Test
questions are randomly selected from a test bank, making each test unique.
